There is/was a butterfly exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington DC that allowed visitors to interact with the butterflies in an indoor, synthetic habitat. The structure was a translucent tube that the visitor entered one end and then exited at the opposite end. Air blowers and airlocks prevented the exit of butterflies that tend to land on visitors without their knowledge. My daughters loved the experience. The potential is to showcase butterflies as perhaps a larger exhibit on the role of pollinators in the ecosystem, which includes our agricultural systems. Entering a room of bees might not be as fantastic, but transparent bee exhibits with access to the outdoors is a proven exhibit type.
